Session Description

Guerilla Gardening and Plant Sketchwalk
Community Workshop for Youth and Adults
With Michael Metzger

Date: Saturday, 1 February 2020
Timings: 10:00 am–1:00 pm
Meeting point: The Urban Garden, Al Mureijah Square
Ages: 15+
Language: English

In this workshop, participants will walk around #SAFneighbourhood to observe and identify the variety of plants growing in the cracks, sidewalks, nooks and alleyways of the neighbourhood, and then they will document them in their sketchbooks. Additionally, they will learn about and take part in guerilla gardening as a form of street art. They will attempt to grow plants and food crops by loosely distributing seeds in the areas listed above, thus inviting nature to grow organically in the neighbourhood.

Michael Metzger’s workshops and courses focus on skills of traditional heritage, recycling and outdoor education. He conducts agricultural workshops and teaches desert survival techniques for various organisations in the UAE, including Abu Dhabi’s Department of Tourism and Culture.
