Overview

A partly improvised composition developed on-site in Sharjah. The title, Mina or “harbour” reflects the area’s heritage as a geographically important port in trading routes between India, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia. Though stemming from a personal and idiosyncratic sonic spectrum built up over a longer period of time, the work responds to Sharjah’s urban and industrial spaces and sonic environments. The artists apply various extended techniques to traditional instruments and resonant objects, to produce an array of mechanical drones, free percussion and feedback.

Mina will be presented as a performance by Sholto Dobie and cellist Joel Wycherely at the opening event, alongside a six channel audio installation Mina which will remain for the duration of the exhibition.
