Express yourself through monoprinting as you learn the basic principles of the art form and experiment with different tools and media. Take inspiration from the practice of artist Lala Rukh and her printmaking manual, In Our Own Backyard, part of the ongoing exhibition Lala Rukh: In the Round, currently on view in Al Mureijah Art Spaces. Investigate composition, colour hierarchy and the use of negative space, and learn techniques for painterly mark-making, collaging and the use of textured surfaces, found objects and monotype. For your final project, create your own monoprinting handbook explaining techniques and discussion points from the course and showcasing your prints.

Please note that attendance for all four sessions of the course is mandatory and costs a total fee of 50 AED.

Lala Rukh: In the Round

The circumnavigation of a cultural practice as capacious as an ocean horizon, as fierce as a lone protest call, and as intimate as undulating contours of an evening raga is evidenced in the oeuvre of artist, activist and pedagogue Lala Rukh (1948-2017).
