Workshop Description

SB15 artist Hassan Hajjaj presents a workshop that takes a group of invited participants from the UAE’s dance community into the world of capoeira and its complex manoeuvers. Incorporating dance, acrobatics and music, capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art form, originally practiced by enslaved Africans at the beginning of the sixteenth century. This event, accompanying the artist’s documentary Gnawa Capoeira Brothahood, is conducted by a group of capoeira masters. Taking place in Arts Square, outside Sharjah Art Foundation headquarters, the workshop is open to the general public. Audience participation is encouraged.

Translation from Portuguese to English will be provided.

This event is free and open to the public.
