Biography

Papa Demba Fall is a researcher whose interests centre on African, and particularly Senegalese, migrations. His work focuses on issues of migratory politics and the impact of migration on group identities and local development.

Fall is Senior Researcher at Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD), head of the Humanities Department of the Institut de français d’Afrique noire and director of the African International Migration Studies Network. He has published three project papers about Senegal for EUMAGINE (2013, 2012, 2010); Migration, emploi et developpement durable au Sénégal [Migration, employment and sustainable development in Senegal], Bureau International de Travail, Geneva (2009); Trois projets associatifs sénégalais de MIDA [Three collaborative Senegalese projects of MIDA – Migration for Development in Africa], CeSPI, Rome (2007) and Migration internationale et droits des travailleurs au Sénégal [International migration and workers’ rights in Senegal], UNESCO, Paris (2003), among others.

Fall is a member of the Communications Team, Geographical Duo Team for Senegal and the General Assembly in EUMAGINE, a European research project examining the impact of perceptions on migration choices. He holds a PhD in Geography from Université Paris X-Nanterre.
