Biography

Inas Halabi works primarily with film to explore how social and political conditions of the past are inextricably linked to the present and the impact that overlooked or suppressed histories have on contemporary life. Her films examine how historical narratives are constructed, often focusing on individual and personal stories as a point of departure.

Halabi has participated in many group and solo shows such as Municipal Art Acquisitions at Stedelijik Museum, Amsterdam (2020); Moving Images After Post-Internet at Palazzo Strozzi, Florence (2019); We Have Always Known the Wind’s Direction at Mosaic Rooms, London (2019); How to Reappear at the Beirut Art Centre, Beirut (2019); Letters to Fritz and Paul at the Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art, Jerusalem (2017); Untranslatability: From Palestine to Hungary at Off-Biennale, Budapest (2017); Sharjah Biennial 13 Offsite: Shifting Ground at Khalil Sakakini Cultural Centre, Ramallah (2017), among others.

Halabi was awarded the first prize for the A. M. Qattan Foundation’s Young Artist of the Year and has received multiple production grants from many organizations including MOPHRADAT in Belgium, the Arab Funds for Arts and Culture in Lebanon, and the AFK in the Netherlands.

Halabi was an artist in residence at Deltaworkers, New Orleans (2020); De Ateliers in Amsterdam (2019); and Gasteatelier Krone Residency in Sqitzerland (2016).

Halabi holds an MFA from Goldsmiths College in London (2014) and a BA from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (2011).

Halabi was born in 1988 in Palestine, she lives and works in the Netherlands.
