Biography

Mahbubur Rahman (b. 1969, Dhaka) is a curator and visual artist. He co-founded Britto Arts Trust (with artist Tayeba Begum Lipi), Bangladesh’s first artist-run platform to support emerging artists through residencies, workshops and funding. His works have been shown in a number of solo exhibitions and projects in Dhaka, Delhi, Mumbai, Chittagong and Yogyakarta. Rahman has also participated in several group exhibitions, including Kunsthaus Zurich (2023); documenta fifteen (2022); Jakarta Biennale (2022); and Sculpture Park, Jaipur (2018). His works can be found in many collections worldwide, including Kunsthaus Zurich; Gujral Foundation in India; Bengal Foundation, Bangladesh; and Fukuoka Art Museum, Japan. His awards and fellowships include Best Award in Sculpture in the Young Artists’ Art Exhibition organised by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka (1998, 1994 and 1990); a fellowship from the Aminul Islam Trust; and the ‘Unesco-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists’ Programme (2001).
