Biography

Müge Turan is a film curator at the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art (2008–present). She has also worked as a writer and editor of publications such as Time Out Istanbul and Empire.

As a member of FIPRESCI (the International Federation of Film Critics), she has served on film festival juries in Vienna, Dubai, Thessaloniki and Cannes. In 2021, Turan became a programming consultant to Berlinale Forum.

Her publications include Will the Real Devil Speak Up? (Resonance: The Journal of Sound and Culture 1 (3), University of California Press, 2020) and From Forbidden Planet to Solaris (LAP Lambert Academic Publishing, 2012).

She is the recipient of several awards, including Mitacs Globalink Research Award Abroad (2020); Chancellor Henry N.R. Jackman Junior Fellowship (2016–19); Atom Egoyan Cinema Studies Scholarship (2016–17); and Robert Lantos Cinema Studies Scholarship (2017–18).

Turan holds a BA in Sociology from Bogazici University, Istanbul (2001) and an MA in Film and Television Studies from Bilgi University, Istanbul (2005). She is a PhD candidate at the Cinema Studies Institute, University of Toronto, where her special field is sound in cinema.

She was born in 1976 in Istanbul, where she continues to live and work.

SFP4 Talks and Workshops

Sharjah Film Platform (SFP) offers a programme of talks on cinema and artists’ moving image as well as sessions addressing current debates in the film industry. A programme of workshops for children and families aims to teach children about the various aspects of filmmaking, such as screenwriting, storyboarding, lighting, filming and production.
