In recent years, Elizabeth Peyton has worked increasingly in the field of still-life painting and drawing, producing works inspired by literature and the process of reading.
Peyton’s solo exhibitions include an exhibition of drawings and monotypes at the Staatliche Kunsthalle, Baden-Baden, Germany (2013); Ghost, a retrospective of prints, at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, St. Louis, USA, and Opelvillen, Rüsselsheim, Germany (2011); the survey Live Forever at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, USA; New Museum, New York; Whitechapel Gallery, London; and Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht, the Netherlands (2009–10) and Reading and Writing, which brought together many literature-related works, at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (2009).
