Biography

Shazia Salam (b. 1992, Dubai) is an interdisciplinary artist. Situated in environments of work and play, her practice borrows from their rituals to examine constructs of being within capitalist systems. Her first solo show Voice-Over-Voice- opened in Dubai in 2023, following her participation in Tashkeel’s Critical Practice Programme. Her group exhibitions include Alternate Screens, Cuvo VideoArt Festival Madrid (2024); Covid Conversations, Tashkeel Dubai (2020); Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa (2019); and 5in5 presents, London (2018). A recipient of Mophradat Self-Organizations Grant (2023), Salam was an artist-in-residence at Dharti Arts Residency, New Delhi (2019). Her project Walking Memorials: Endeavours of Reading Silence (2022) was commissioned by Jameel Art Center, Dubai. She holds a BArch from Manipal University, Karnataka, India (2015) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Arts from the University of Arts London (2018). She lives and works in the UAE.
