Biography

Born Pascal Marthin Tayou, the artist feminised his name in the 1990s, when he began his career. His objects, sculptures, installations, drawings and videos all focus on the concept of an individual moving through the world.

Tayou’s exhibitions include solo shows at Mudam Luxembourg (2011); MAC Lyon, France (2011); Malmö Konsthall, Sweden (2010); and SMAK, Ghent, Belgium (2004); as well as numerous group presentations such as the Marrakech Biennale, Morocco (2012); TRA – The Edge of Becoming, Palazzo Fortuny, Venice, Italy (2011); The New Décor, Hayward Gallery, London, UK, and Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow, Russia (2010); Venice Biennale (2009); Prospect.1, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA (2008); and Documenta 11, Kassel, Germany (2002).
