Biography

What, How & for Whom (WHW) is a curatorial collective formed in Zagreb in 1999, and is currently based in Berlin, Vienna and Zagreb. Its founding members are curators Ivet Ćurlin, Ana Dević, Nataša Ilić, Sabina Sabolović and designer and publicist Dejan Kršić. At its creation, its work was rooted in the political and social landscape of Croatia – a place of post-war intensity filled with nationalism, xenophobia and the erasure of the socialist past.

What, how and for whom, the three basic questions of every economic organization, concern the planning, concept and realization of exhibitions as well as the production and distribution of artworks. In 2000, these questions formed the title of WHW's first project dedicated to the anniversary of the Communist Manifesto in Zagreb, and became the motto of WHW's work and the collective’s name.

Over the years, WHW has implemented complex programs across institutional departments, including curatorial work, education, public engagement, financial and logistical planning and developed projects in different geographical and cultural contexts.
