Biography

Yasmeen Mjalli (b. 1996, California) is the founder and creative director of Nöl Collective, a fashion label highlighting traditional artisanship and crafts in Palestine. She received a BA in art history from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and an MA in liberal studies at Duke University. Born in the United States of America to Palestinian immigrants, Mjalli was raised between the US and Palestine. She moved to Ramallah seven years ago and now dedicates her time to researching traditional fabrics and working with artisans as well as capturing Palestine through film photography. Her work is focused on using traditional textiles and artisanal crafts such as weaving and embroidery to tell stories about Palestine and its people. Her film photography also serves to provide a romantic glimpse into everyday moments throughout Palestine, fiercely contrasting the way Palestine is portrayed in mainstream media.
