Overview

This booklet is a record of Sharjah Art Foundation’s major survey exhibition of the work of artist Zineb Sedira, curated by Hoor Al Qasimi. The exhibition covers 17 years of the artist’s explorations of notions of family, tradition, oral history, migration and the intergenerational transmission of knowledge, often through a personal lens. Several of Sedira’s well-known works have been exhibited, including Mother Tongue (2002), Saphir (2006), The Image Keepers (2010) and the rarely seen video The End of the Road (2010). This exhibition also presents two new commissions, Sunken Stories and Air Affairs, and two new production installations, Laughter in Hell and The Forgotten (Condemned) Journalists of Algeria’s Black Decade.
