Talk Description

Join us for a talk organised in conjunction with the exhibition Lala Rukh: In the Round. Maryam Rahman (artist, The Estate of Lala Rukh), Sarah Zaman (singer and musicologist) and exhibition co-curator Natasha Ginwala together discuss the life and practice of artist, activist and pedagogue Lala Rukh (1948–2017).
The conversation centres on the artist’s multitudinous contributions to art, education and social change as well as traces her own minimal art practice and her initiatives to preserve the cultural heritage of Pakistan. The talk will also examine how Lala Rukh shaped generations of artists as well as established pioneering programmes.
