Make Your Own Paint at the Souq
Workshop for Youth and Adults
With Nahla Al Tabbaa

Date: Saturday, 29 February 2020
Timings: 10:00 am–1:00 pm
Meeting point: Collections Building, Arts Square
Ages: 15+
Language: English

Participants in this workshop will create their own paints from scratch using ingredients, pigments and binding agents commonly found at #SAFneighbourhood souqs. They will explore Souq Saqr’s numerous traditional spice and herb shops in search of ingredients and later regroup at the Collections Building, where they will learn how to mix and create their own functional set of paints to take home.

Nahla Al Tabbaa is a multidisciplinary artist and navigator with food tourism company Frying Pan Adventures. For her Campus Art Dubai 8.0 project for Art Dubai 2020, she is developing a colour palette based on traditional ways of making paints but procured through a more urban method in a solemn reflection of Dubai's future resources. In 2016, she helped launch Sharjah Art Foundation’s Community Programme, a process which familiarised her with #SAFneighborhood and the souqs.
