Overview

After 62 years of marriage, Aïcha and Mabrouk decide to separate. Their granddaughter Lina is baffled by this decision, and in this film, she goes in search of answers. Mabrouk migrated from Algeria to the town of Thiers, a small medieval town in the middle of France, in the late 1950s as a teenager to work in the knife factory. Aïcha followed her husband, with whom she had an arranged marriage at the age of 15. This intimate family story examines the impact of French colonisation as well as the consequences of immigration and displacement, and a longing for family and the village back home, which they in fact hardly know.
