Join Sharjah Art Foundation Director Hoor Al Qasimi as she outlines the history of the Sharjah Biennial since its establishment in 1993. She will be joined by Sharjah Biennial 14 co-curator Omar Kholeif and artist Jon Rafman, who will discuss the context of producing site-specific work.

Opening in March 2019, Sharjah Biennial 14: Leaving the Echo Chamber will question the possibilities for producing art when material culture is under the constant threat of human destruction and climate degradation. SB14 continues the Biennial’s tradition of offering opportunities for artists from the surrounding region and beyond to exhibit their work and experiment with new projects and initiatives. The curators for SB14 are Zoe Butt, Omar Kholeif and Claire Tancons.

SB14 will include exhibitions by each of the three curators, bringing together a range of experiences and works by contemporary artists—including major commissions, large-scale public installations, performances and films—to explore the ways in which contemporary life, enabled by rapid technological change, has created a seemingly inescapable ‘echo chamber’ of information, complex personal networks and shifting narratives that are physical, spiritual and virtual.
