Biography

In film, video, photography and installation, Hala Elkoussy considers the events and individuals left out of official accounts, highlighting the complexities of urban communities. In 2004, Elkoussy co-founded the Contemporary Image Collective, an artist-run initiative based in Cairo.

Recent exhibitions include the Museum für Photographie, Braunschweig, Germany (2012); National Museum of Carthage, Tunisia (2012); Museum of Art and Design, New York (2010); Sharjah Biennial (2009); Göteborg Konsthall, Sweden (2009); Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol, UK (2007); Tate Modern, London, UK (2007); Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, Mexico (2007); the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam (2006) and Istanbul Biennial, Turkey (2005), among other venues.
