Anawana Haloba drafts poetry in the form of sketches, which she then abstracts into performance-based works incorporating moving images, objects and sound. In this way, she explores the positions of different communities within varied political, social, economic and cultural contexts.

She has been awarded fellowships from the Faculty of Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen (2017–2020); Arbeidsstipend, Arts Council, Norway (2010, 2016) and the Office for Contemporary Art Norway, Oslo (2008) as well as a Royal Caribbean Arts Grant, Norway (2013). She has participated in residencies at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC (2013); Tenthaus, Oslo (2013) and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Liverpool, Australia (2008).
Haloba studied at the Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce, Lusaka, Zambia (1998–2000), Oslo National Academy of the Arts (2002–2006) and Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam (2007–2008). She is currently a PhD fellow at the University of Bergen, Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, Norway.
Born in 1978 in Livingstone, Zambia, she lives and works between Oslo and Livingstone.
