Biography

The visual research band ikkibawiKrrr, based in Seoul, explores the connection between plants, natural phenomena, humanity and ecology. Its current members are KO Gyeol, KIM Jungwon, and CHO Jieun. The word ‘ikkibawiKrrr’ is a combination of ‘ikki’, meaning ‘moss’, and ‘bawi’, meaning ‘rock’, coming together as ‘moss rock’; ‘Krrr’ is an onomatopoeic term. The group aims to apply the adaptability of moss to their projects and attitudes. The notion of moss living on its own terms, becoming part of the movement of its surroundings and the expansion of the boundary layer of air and soil, is crucial for their work. ikkibawiKrrr also explores the concept of ‘migration’, going beyond the human sociopolitical context and delving into the temporality of plants, natural communities and all inhabitants of the Earth.

Major exhibitions include the 12th Seoul Mediacity Biennale (2023), 14th Gwangju Biennale (2023) and documenta fifteen (2022), among others.
