Biography

Tushar Joag graduated in sculpture from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai (1988) and received his MA from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU Baroda, India (1990). He held a fellowship at the Kanoria Center for Arts, Ahmedabad (1990–1992) and participated in an artist residency at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam (1998–2000). He is co-founder of Open Circle, a Mumbai-based artist collective that engages with contemporary sociopolitical issues via an integration of theory and practice. Joag has curated international events and exhibitions, both individually and collaboratively, including the World Social Forum (WSF), Nairobi, Kenya (2007); various events and exhibitions for the WSF in Porto Alegre, Brazil (2006); and WSF, Mumbai (2004). He is a founding faculty member and Associate Professor in the Department of Art Design and Performing Art at Shiv Nadar University, Delhi.
