Biography

Riyas Komu is an artist whose work takes energy from social movements and political actions that are part of the larger narrative of the making and unmaking of artistic influences in society. Komu’s work also reflects the current issues in global context, mainly violence, displacement and conflict. His work has been exhibited at art museums and he has participated in forums across the world, including Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2011), Helsinki Art Museum, Helsinki (2011), Beyond Art Space, Beijing (2009) and Venice Biennale (2007), in addition to numerous exhibitions in India. He has also been working towards advancing art education and developing art infrastructure in India. Komu is Co-Founder and Director of Programmes for the Kochi Biennale Foundation, and curated the inaugural edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale along with Bose Krishnamachari.
