Biography

Sliman Mansour (b. 1947, Birzeit) is an artist and founding member of the League of Palestinian Artists (1973) and Al-Wasiti Art Center in Jerusalem, which was established in 1994 to archive and preserve art in Palestine. He was a professor at Al-Quds University (2000–2014) and contributed cartoons and illustratiions to the Al Fajr English weekly and Al-Awda magazine (1981–1993). Using symbols derived from Palestinian life, culture and history, Mansour uniquely illustrates Palestinians’ resolve and connection with their land. Mansour is the recipient of several awards, including the Palestine Prize for the Visual Arts (1998), Grand Nile Prize at the Seventh Cairo Biennial (1998) and UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture (2019). His works can be found in the collections of the British Museum, London, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, L’institut du Monde Arabe, Paris and Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah, among others.
