Biography

The Palestine Writing Workshop, established in 2009 in the city of Ramallah, supports and develops literary writing, reading and the arts through community programmes that enhance the capabilities of writers and artists, provide them with free spaces for direct engagement, and promote reading within different segments of society.
The organisation conducts workshops targeting children and adolescents as well as writers, poets and the general public. These projects celebrate literature and the arts as important means for encouraging a dignified life, understanding reality, appreciating self and heritage, and promoting positive values away from consumerism and narrow perspectives. The Palestine Writing Workshop fosters diverse Palestinian expression, imperative for building creative industries and a viable civil society in Palestine, where voices are frequently silenced and an entire culture is under existential threat by military and cultural occupation.
