Biography

Touda Bouanani (b. 1966, Rabat) is a pluridisciplinary artist and the founder of Archives Bouanani, an association dedicated to preserving the artistic and cultural legacies of her father Ahmed Bouanani (1938–2011), mother Naïma Saoudi (1947–2012) and sister Batoul (1969–2003) as well as other accomplished filmmakers and writers. Since 2020, with the support of the Garda Henkel Foundation, Bouanani has actively engaged in creating a website for the association. In 2021, she established Intilak, a research body focused on feminist and decolonial rewriting of the history of cinema, with Maya Ouabadi and Léa Morin. Her book projects include La Septième porte, une histoire du cinéma au Maroc de 1907 à 1986 (2020) and Remonter le temps (2016). Bouanani has participated in various artist residencies, most recently at Cinematheque of Paris (2023) and Soigner notre mémoire at Huarte Center, Spain (2023).
