Works from the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection

Overview

An exhibition of works from the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection were presented in Cologne as part of an initiative for cultural and economic exchange between Sharjah, UAE, and the Nordhein Westphalia, Germany.

Curated by Hoor Al Qasimi, the exhibition included Ziad Antar’s series Portrait of a Territory, 2004―2011; Sarah Abu Abdallah’s, Saudi Automobile, 2011; Tarek Al-Ghoussein’s, DII Series, 2009, Prayer Room, 2012 by Ammar Al Attar, Marwan Rechmaoui’s Beirut Caoutchouc, 2004, 13 Essential Rules for Understanding the World, 2011, by Basim Magdy; Wael Shawky’s films Al Araba Al Madfuna, 2012, and Al Araba Al Madfuna II, 2013, and his sound installation Dictums 10:120, 2011―2013; Execution Squares, 2008, by Hrair Sarkissian, Bouchra Khalili’s Mapping Journeys #7 and Mapping Journeys #8, 2011, The Majlis, 2009, by Lamya Gargash; CAMP’s From Gulf to Gulf to Gulf, 2009―2013, Moataz Nasr’s The ECHO, 2003, Yang Fudong’s Push the door softly and walk in, Or just stay standing where you are, 2013, Vacuum, 2007 by Raeda Saadeh, Saphir, 2006 by Zineb Sedira, Magdi Mostafa’s sound cells: FRIDAYS, 2010, Sharif Waked’s To Be Continued..., 2009, Proposal for an Iraq War Memorial, 2007, by Iman Issa, Maha Maamoun’s Domestic Tourism II, 2008, and Rokni Haerizadeh’s Fictionville, 2010.

The exhibition was opened alongside Sinus Arabicus, an exhibition of historic maps from the collection of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, as well as a selection of calligraphic works and heritage objects organised by the Department of Culture and Information, Government of Sharjah.

The Opening Reception took place in the presence of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi and delegation on Thursday, 4 September 2014.
