Biography

Founded in 2002, Britto Arts Trust is the first artist-run non-profit collective in Bangladesh with a global reach, working in different locations across the country. Britto Arts Trust is an expansive and sustainable non-commercial contemporary art environment and culture that seeds and promotes multiple interdisciplinary practitioners, groups and networks. As a catalyst, it provides a platform for the development of professional artists, a place where they can meet, discuss and upgrade their skills on their own terms.

In partnership with Bengal Foundation and Gervasuti Foundation, Britto Arts Trust initiated its footprint at the Venice Biennale as the first national participation of Bangladesh in 2011.

The trust organised projects including residencies, events, talks, public art projects, screenings and international workshops in Bangladesh and abroad. Since 2017, Britto has been working on project Counter Enclave, travelling through enclaves in India and Bangladesh that were fighting until 2015 for their own identities.
