The Sharjah Art Foundation publications department supports independent bookmaking through an annual publishing grant and art book fair, and produces major artists’ monographs which use archival and primary material to expand and question the canon of contemporary art. The department is a custodian of influential out-of-print books written by those who pioneered the conceptual arts movement in Sharjah and were involved with the Sharjah Biennial in the 1990s. Since the Biennial’s curatorial shift in 2003 to non-national representation and discursive practices, the Foundation’s publications have reflected its evolving and experimental ideas through a range of multilingual projects, tactile artist books, photography books, novellas and academic papers. The SAF publications department plays a central role in the institution’s commitment to knowledge and community-building through contemporary art.
All publications are available in the three Sharjah Art Foundation shops, located at Mureijah Square, The Flying Saucer and Art Square.
