Amar Kanwar speaks about his Sharjah Biennial 15 work ‘The Peacock’s Graveyard’ (2023), commissioned by Sharjah Art Foundation.

Detaching from the classical documentary form, this video installation contemplates the universal journey towards death, and its tangled, mirrored impact on the lives of the living, highlighting how rumination on death enables intimate deconstruction of the self.

The film combines traditional narrative structures, folklore, speculations and personal experiences to rekindle older philosophies with emerging forms of contemporary violence and suppression.
