Barbara Walker: Burden of Proof
Barbara Walker speaks about her Sharjah Biennial 15 project ‘Burden of Proof’ (2022).
Commissioned by Sharjah Art Foundation with the support of The Whitworth, The University of Manchester, the work reflects on notions of racism, exclusion and xenophobia as evidenced by the Windrush scandal in the UK.
Walker presents a variety of proof, from an invoice for legal services to a temporary military discharge certificate, to highlight the struggle for legitimacy of those questioned and abandoned in what became known as the Windrush betrayal.
