In her work ‘Weaving Light’, Archana Hande uses mixed media to interrogate Bengaluru’s textile industry and its transformations of labour, materiality and technology.
The work is composed of an interactive installation, a film about textile workshops and a collection of found objects from factories. In ‘All is Fair in Magic White’, animated film and painted block prints explore the hierarchies of race, class and gender that constitute the city of Mumbai. In both works, Hande testifies to the power dynamics and inequalities inherent in projecting nationalist modernism onto postcolonial realities.
