Mirna Bamieh speaks about her Sharjah Biennial 15 work.  ‘Sour Things’ (2023) uses fermentation as a metaphor for zooming into micro-worlds of encapsulated multitudes in order to look at life, cities, people, relationships and occurrences. The mixed media installation uses drawings, ceramics, video and ferments to sharpen the senses, such as listening, learning, caring.

Inspired by the site of the Old Al Jubail Vegetable Market, this introspective reflection on notions of transformation, time and labour navigates the fine line between decay and preservation.
