Heri Dono: Fermentation of the Brain
Heri Dono speaks about his Sharjah Biennial 15 work ‘Fermentation of the Brain’ (2014).
The installation explores how education frames subjectivity and degrades independent thinking when pedagogy is, functionally, propaganda. Installed at Kalba Kindergarten, the work is an explicit commentary on propaganda and attempts to control public thought and opinion during the era of Suharto’s dictatorship (1967–1998) in Indonesia.
